2023 BMW X6

The X5 SUV is really a larger and more useful barge than the 2023 BMW X6 with its slanted top, but numbers can be funny things. The X6 drives somewhat like a heavy 3-series in stilettos. The X6 deploys power with the same smoothness as shaving cream thanks to either a 335 horsepower inline-six engine (40i) or a more potent 523 horsepower twin-turbo V-8 (M50i). Choose the X6 M for extra power, which has up to 617 horsepower (reviewed separately). The inside of the X6 is stylish and practical despite the exterior's oddly shaped dimensions. For those who value stunning appearances above all else, the stylishly tilted roof compromises some headroom and storage capacity, but they are unlikely to regret the X5's greater price.

BMW X6 2023 price - Which One to Buy

The 523-hp 2023 BMW X6 M50i Sports offers louder noises and more robust acceleration, but we don't believe it's worth the extra $20,000 it costs.

Instead, we would continue to use the six-cylinder 2023 BMW X6 XDrive40i Sports Activity, which has all-wheel drive as standard.

We would go for the M Sport option, which also comes with a special steering wheel, an improved exhaust system, a snazzier body kit, and external trim.

The ventilated front seats with additional power adjustments and massage features are a great addition with the Luxury Seating option.

The new Climate Comfort bundle will be welcomed by those who live in frigid climates like us. It has heated seats in both rows, four-zone temperature control, a heated steering wheel, and heated armrests.

Performance - Engine, Transmission, and Other

The 3.0-liter inline-six engine in the X6 40i generates 335 horsepower and has a 48-volt hybrid system. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The M50i features the same all-wheel drive and transmission, but it also sports a substantially more potent twin-turbo 4.4 liter V-8. At our test track, its 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque allowed it to reach 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

Even more astonishing is the fact that the X6 M is faster and boasts up to 617 horsepower. The regular six-cylinder engine is still quite rapid and smooth.

Additionally, standard adaptive dampers and wheels that range in size from 20 to 22 inches are features shared by the 2023 BMW X6 40i and M50i.

The X6's outstanding cornering grip and stopping power were shown throughout our test. Although it has a stronger suspension than the one in the six-cylinder X6 we tested, it never seemed harsh. We particularly like its adjustable steering weight and quiet cabin at highway speeds.

Capacity for Towing and Payload

In a market where having the ability to pull is frequently given minimal importance, the X6 offers an exceptional towing capacity. The 2023 BMW X6 can tow up to 7200 pounds when equipped with the optional towing equipment.

Fuel efficiency and actual MPG

Only available with all-wheel drive, the 2023 BMW X6 40i is rated at 21 city mpg and 25 highway mpg. The far more powerful twin-turbo V-8 X6 M50i has a city/highway fuel economy rating of 16 mpg. The six-cylinder 2023 BMW X6 achieved 29 mpg highway on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, exceeding the government's expectations, but the M50i fell short by 2 mpg in the same test. Visit the EPA website for more information about the X6's fuel efficiency.

Cargo, Comfort, and the Interior

2023 BMW X6 price and Competition

Naturally, the inside of the X6 looks and feels similar to that of the majority of new BMW vehicles. This means the dashboard is dominated by two enormous 12.3-inch digital screens and is covered in high-end materials and soft-touch surfaces.

The gauges are a confused muddle, despite how sleek the instrument panel appears to be. Thankfully, the head-up display is simpler and optional.

The layout of the remaining switchgear is also shrewd. Although not essential, BMW's gesture controls let you change the level of your music by waving your hand in front of the infotainment screen.

There are also many standard features available, such as heated front seats, ambient lighting that can be customized, 16-way power adjustable front seats, and passive entry.

Although the back seat is adequate for two adults, it has less legroom and headroom than the boxer X5 by around 2 and 3 inches, respectively. The X6 also features a smaller luggage space behind the back seats. In our test, it could only fit nine carry-on bags back there, whereas the X5 could fit 11.

Connectivity and Information

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both included in the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is standard.

It may be controlled using a variety of methods, including hand gestures, voice instructions, a rotary controller on the central console, and conventional buttons.

The iDrive interface from the firm provides clear visuals and quick reactions, although some of the tiered menus might be annoying.

Additionally, BMW provides extras like integrated navigation, improved USB ports, wireless charging, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. A premium Harman/Kardon audio or a far more expensive Bowers & Wilkins unit may be added to the X6.

Features for Driver Assistance and Safety

Numerous driver-assistance technologies are both standard and optional on the Bimmer. Visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for additional details regarding the X6's crash test results. Important safety elements include:

  • standard automatic emergency braking with forward collision warning

  • Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning are standard.

  • available stop-and-go technology for adaptive cruise control

Coverage for Warranties and Maintenance

The limited and powertrain warranties that BMW offers are comparable to those offered by Mercedes-Benz and Audi, two competitor premium automakers. Aside from Jaguar, BMW has one of the strongest complimentary maintenance programmes in the market.

  • Four years or 50,000 miles are covered under the limited warranty.

  • Four years or 50,000 miles are covered by the powertrain warranty.

  • Three years or 36,000 miles are covered under the complimentary maintenance period.
